Prairie was born from a love of effortless style and quiet confidence — inspired by the Scandinavian way of living beautifully without excess.

The Fabric Story
Where nature meets craft
Every Prairie piece begins long before the sewing room. It begins in the field, the fibre, and the hands that honour both.
Cotton and linen are among the oldest fibres known to humanity — and also the most honest. They come directly from plants: cotton from the soft bolls of the cotton flower, linen from the long stems of the flax plant.
Unlike synthetic fabrics, these fibres carry no petrochemicals, no plastic microparticles. They are fully biodegradable — they return to the soil they came from. They breathe with your body, soften with every wash, and age with a grace that only natural things can.
This is why Prairie will only ever work in natural fabric. It is not a trend decision. It is a values decision.

Cotton — the gentle one
Cotton fibres grow inside protective bolls that burst open as they ripen, revealing the soft white fluff spun into thread. It is a living, breathing material — naturally hypoallergenic, moisture-wicking, and cool against the skin.
Because it comes from a plant, cotton responds to its environment the way we do — it adapts to heat, softens with time, and carries a warmth that no synthetic can replicate. The cotton we source is known globally for its exceptional long fibres, producing a finer, stronger, and more supple cloth.

Linen — the enduring one
Linen is made from the stalks of the flax plant — one of the most resource-efficient crops on earth, requiring no irrigation and minimal processing. Its fibres are hollow, allowing heat to pass through rather than trap, making linen extraordinarily cool to wear.
It is the most ancient woven fabric still in use today. Every natural crease in linen is a feature, not a flaw. It lives and moves with you, softening and growing more beautiful with every season you wear it.

The Making
Designed with intention
Every Prairie garment starts on paper — hand-sketched silhouettes, fabric swatches pinned alongside, measurements noted by hand. The design process is slow and deliberate, because the decisions made here determine everything that follows.
Prairie designs are timeless designs and not meant to change with seasons.
We use natural cotton as the foundation of our collections, chosen for its softness and breathability. Our fabrics are dyed and finished to achieve the colours and textures you see. As a small brand, full fibre-to-fabric traceability isn't yet possible for us — but we're intentional in what we source and committed to increasing transparency as we grow.

1. General. These terms and conditions govern all purchases and use of prairie.no, operated by Prairie, Norway. By placing an order or using this website, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these terms in full. Prairie reserves the right to update these terms at any time. The most current version will always be available on our website. Customers in the EU retain all statutory consumer rights under applicable EU and EEA legislation, including the Norwegian Consumer Purchases Act (forbrukerkjøpsloven) and the Right of Withdrawal Act (angrerettloven).
2. Orders & Order Confirmation. All orders placed through prairie.no are subject to acceptance and availability. Placing an order constitutes an offer to purchase. A binding agreement is formed when you receive an order confirmation email from us. Prairie reserves the right to cancel or refuse any order at our discretion — for example, in the event of pricing errors, product unavailability or suspected fraudulent activity. If your order is cancelled, you will be notified promptly and any payment taken will be fully refunded. Please review your order carefully before completing your purchase, as changes cannot be guaranteed once an order is confirmed.
3. Pricing & VAT. All prices on prairie.no are displayed in Norwegian Krone (NOK) and include 25% VAT (MVA) where applicable, in accordance with Norwegian law. For international customers, prices may be displayed in your local currency at checkout using live exchange rates. Prairie reserves the right to adjust prices at any time without prior notice. In the event of an obvious pricing error, we reserve the right to cancel the order and issue a full refund, even after confirmation has been sent.
4. Payment. Payment is processed at the time of order. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay. All transactions are processed securely through Shopify Payments using SSL encryption. Prairie does not store your full card details. If a payment is declined, your order will not be confirmed. Please contact your bank or try an alternative payment method. In the event of fraudulent use of a payment method, Prairie will cooperate fully with relevant authorities.
5. Delivery & Shipping. Prairie ships to Norway and selected international destinations. Estimated delivery times are provided at checkout and are not guaranteed. Delivery times may be affected by public holidays, carrier delays or customs processing for international orders. Risk of loss and title for products pass to you upon delivery. If your order has not arrived within the estimated timeframe, please contact us at shop@prairie.no. If an order is lost or significantly delayed due to our error or our carrier's fault, we will offer a replacement or full refund. Prairie is not responsible for delays caused by incorrect address information provided at checkout.
6. Right of Withdrawal. In accordance with the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act (angrerettloven), you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days of receiving your order, without providing any reason. To exercise this right, you must notify us in writing at shop@prairie.no or by submitting a return request at prairie.no/returns.html before the 14-day period expires. The item must then be returned to us within 14 days of your withdrawal notice. Items must be returned in their original condition — unworn, unwashed and with all tags attached. Prairie does not offer direct exchanges. If you wish to receive a different size or style, please return your item and place a new order.
7. Returns & Condition of Goods. Returned items must be clean, unworn and with all original tags attached. We ask that garments are tried on with care. Returns that are used, washed, soiled, damaged or missing tags will not be accepted and will be returned to the customer. The customer is responsible for the goods until they have been received by our returns facility. We recommend using a tracked shipping method and retaining your proof of postage. Return shipping costs are deducted from your refund unless the item is faulty or incorrectly sent.
8. Refunds. Once we have received and inspected your returned item, we will notify you of the outcome. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days of receiving the return, to the original payment method. Depending on your bank or card provider, it may take additional business days for the refund to appear in your account. If your return is not accepted, we will contact you to arrange the item's return to you. Prairie reserves the right to reduce the refund amount if the item has been handled beyond what is necessary to assess its condition.
9. Faulty or Incorrect Items. If you receive an item that is faulty, damaged or not what you ordered, please contact us within 7 days of receipt at shop@prairie.no with your order number and a photo of the issue. We will arrange a free return and offer a full refund or replacement at no additional cost to you. Faulty items are covered under the Norwegian Consumer Purchases Act for up to two years from the date of purchase.
10. Product Information. We make every effort to display our products as accurately as possible, including colours, textures and dimensions. However, colours may appear slightly different depending on your screen settings. Product descriptions are for guidance only. Minor variations in fabric, shade or finish may occur and do not constitute a defect. Prairie reserves the right to change product specifications without notice.
11. Intellectual Property. All content on prairie.no — including images, text, design, logos and lookbook photography — is the intellectual property of Prairie and may not be reproduced, distributed or used without prior written consent. Unauthorised use of Prairie's content may result in legal action.
12. Privacy & Data Protection. Prairie collects and processes personal data solely to fulfil your order and provide customer service. We do not sell your data to third parties. We use cookies to improve your experience on our website — you may manage your cookie preferences via the banner on our site. For full details on how we handle your data, or to request access, correction or deletion of your information, please contact us at shop@prairie.no. Our data practices comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Norwegian privacy law.
13. Limitation of Liability. Prairie's liability in connection with any purchase is limited to the value of the goods ordered. We are not liable for indirect losses, loss of income, or damages arising from the use or inability to use our products, except where required by mandatory consumer protection law. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
14. Governing Law & Disputes. These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Any disputes shall primarily be resolved through dialogue — please contact us at shop@prairie.no and we will do our utmost to find a fair solution. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes may be brought before the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet) at forbrukertilsynet.no, or the Consumer Disputes Commission (Forbrukertvistutvalget). EU consumers may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
